Brad Nietfeldt began coding in 1993, just as the World Wide Web was beginning its journey from experiment to infrastructure.His career would unfold inside that transformation, moving from networks and online commerce to digital media, emergency communications, artificial intelligence, and national security.

1993–1998 / BEFORE THE INTERNET BECAME AN INDUSTRY

Coming of age alongside the web.

In 1993, the World Wide Web was still closer to an experiment than an economy. Most households had never heard the shriek of a modem, companies were only beginning to wonder what a website might be, and HTML had barely escaped the institutions where it was born. Brad Nietfeldt was fourteen when he began learning to code. What caught his attention was not simply the novelty of a screen connected to another screen. It was the system underneath, the surprising fact that information, machines, and people could be organized across distance.

That curiosity quickly became practical. At fifteen, he operated his own bulletin board system; at sixteen, an Interactive Netserver. The bedroom setup demanded the habits of a small network operation: configure the machine, keep it available, understand the connection, and help people when it failed. By the time the commercial internet began arriving in ordinary homes, Brad was already working the help desk of a local provider and studying the infrastructure that made the new medium possible.

Before his junior year of high school, he was accepted to the Denver Institute of Technology for Computer Networking and Information Systems. At eighteen, he was managing the help desk at bewell.net, then Denver’s largest internet service provider, in Parker, Colorado. The web was becoming a mass-market phenomenon, and the teenager who had entered through code was now learning its human scale: thousands of customers, imperfect systems, urgent problems, and the responsibility to keep everything connected.

Learning to see the whole system.

The early internet rewarded people who could move freely between layers. A support call might begin with a confused customer and end somewhere inside a network configuration, a software defect, or a security problem. That breadth shaped Brad’s education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Networking and Information Systems, then a master’s degree in Information Systems with a concentration in information warfare.

The progression reflected a widening view of technology. Networks were not merely technical infrastructure; they carried commerce, public information, institutional power, and risk. Over the years, additional degrees and professional certifications extended that study into defense and statecraft. He is now completing a doctorate in Statecraft and National Security, bringing the questions first encountered behind a modem into a larger arena: how systems influence institutions, how information changes decisions, and what resilience requires when the stakes become national.

1999–2007 / PAYPAL, EBAY, AND THE NEW DIGITAL ECONOMY

Inside commerce while it was being reinvented.

By the turn of the century, the internet was no longer a curiosity. It was becoming a marketplace, though few people yet understood how much trust, infrastructure, and operational discipline that marketplace would require. Brad joined PayPal in its infancy as part of the early information technology support group. The company was attempting something culturally radical and technically difficult: persuading strangers to move money through the web.

When eBay acquired PayPal, the work expanded with the scale of the platform. Brad moved into a business support analyst role and later became a lead developer, remaining at eBay until 2007. It was an education in systems that no classroom could fully reproduce. Payments, fraud, customer support, software, operations, and global commerce were not separate functions. They were interdependent parts of one machine, and a decision made in one corner could be felt everywhere else.

That lesson would become the defining logic of his career. Technology delivers its greatest value when the entire system is understood, not when a single component is optimized in isolation.

2003–2012 / BUILDING IN PARALLEL

The side project found a larger purpose.

Even as his work moved through some of the era’s most consequential technology companies, Brad was building something of his own. Omaha Media Group began in 2003 as a side business designing and developing websites. At the time, a corporate website was evolving from an online brochure into the center of a company’s identity, customer acquisition, and commercial operations. The opportunity was not simply to make pages look better. It was to help organizations understand what the web was becoming.

He continued that work while serving as a business analyst at Vertrue and, beginning in 2008, at Interpublic Group, one of the world’s largest advertising and marketing holding companies. A year later, he was recruited into defense initiatives, opening another line of inquiry into technology under pressure. Omaha Media Group became an LLC in 2010, the same year he founded Civil Dispatch, an emergency alerting system designed around a plain but consequential problem: getting accurate information to the right people when time matters.

Civil Dispatch was released publicly in 2012. By then, the connection between Brad’s commercial and public-purpose work was clear. Whether the system carried a payment, a marketing message, or an emergency warning, its worth depended on reliability, clarity, and the judgment of the people responsible for it.

2011–2023 / FROM STUDIO TO GROWTH COMPANY

Turning a digital practice into an institution.

In 2011, Brad left IPG to lead Omaha Media Group full time. The timing placed the company at the center of another transition. Mobile devices were changing how people used the internet, social platforms were becoming media companies, search was reorganizing markets, and nearly every business was being forced to behave like a technology business.

Omaha Media Group grew with that shift. What began as a web studio became an award-winning digital firm whose work crossed design, engineering, search, commerce, strategy, and growth. The company collected dozens of industry honors and earned a place on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private businesses. Its growth was built on the same principle Brad had absorbed in the ISP and platform years: the website, the data, the campaign, the customer experience, and the business model all belong to the same connected system.

In 2023, he sold OMG to a holding company and reorganized the platform as Monstrous Media Group, creating a structure through which other agencies could operate under a shared company. The move was less a departure from the original idea than its expansion: building the system around the work, not merely the work itself.

TODAY / TECHNOLOGY, AI, AND JUDGMENT

Working where several worlds now meet.

Today, the boundaries that once separated software, media, security, and statecraft are dissolving. Artificial intelligence accelerates that convergence. It can transform how an organization operates, but it also raises older questions about information, power, resilience, and human judgment. These are questions Brad has spent three decades approaching from different directions.

He now advises family offices, politicians, defense and prime contractors, military leaders, and other institutions on artificial intelligence and technology. He has served on dozens of boards, including Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals, Chive Charities, and the National Defense Lab. His defense work has included training with United States Special Forces and contributing to Modern Warfare 2.0 for HBO Max, with additional media projects in development.

Writing has become another way to make the connections visible. Brad is the author of a commissioned novella and three books, extending a career spent translating complex systems for the people who must act within them. The tools have changed dramatically since 1993. The instinct has not: look beneath the interface, understand how the parts affect one another, and build something capable of carrying real responsibility.
